The last abortion clinic in Louisiana is struggling to survive with a Supreme Court case that could determine abortion access across the country. Thanks to the quick appointments by Trump to the Supreme Court we have a Conservative leaning court. A ruling could weaken the decade Roe vs. Wade ruling giving women the right to choose what should be done with their bodily functions and reproductive rights. There still is no law anywhere governing men’s reproductive rights. They get penis hardening Viagra covered by health insurance but women don’t even get maintenance necessary products like pads, tampons, bloating drugs or birth control covered by health insurance. Now a small independent clinic for woman’s needs is under attack in south west Louisiana.
The clinic may be forced to close down with a new State law restricting doctors who perform abortions there. The place has a small staff of just 21 employees who provide help with birth control, abortions and consultations on adoptions for 3,000 women in Louisiana alone. Kathaleen Pittman the Administrator of this place called Hope Medical Group testified that 80% of the women treated live at or below the Federal poverty level. The place provides 27% care for women from Texas. They see women from Arkansas, Mississippi, Oklahoma and occasionally Nebraska. Poor women from many states where there is little or no care for them even from the men who impregnate them. Yet in many of these States the law allows men to marry 12 year old girls and impregnate them too. Is this really 2020?
This place is the last line of defense for countless women and even for unwanted born children who will have no one to properly care for them since our adoption and foster care system is overwhelmed with unwanted children who need care for 18 years of their lives. Women are always sent to jail for neglected children but most of the time fathers are never held accountable for the sloppy sperm offspring of theirs. It is very possible that all clinics will close in Louisiana since this Supreme Court case effects all clinics in Louisiana but a decision could affect all clinics nationwide. In 2017 Louisiana passed a law requiring doctors who perform abortions to have restrictions on admitting privileges to hospitals. If this law passes, all the doctors at clinics will be put out of their practice to perform their jobs of medicine. Doctors should never have restrictions on admitting patients to hospitals. Blackmailing medical careers and medical healthcare for religious personal morality convictions is NOT America.
The last time the Supreme Court got involved in the abortion issue was in 2016 when they struck down the state of Texas’s attempt to regulate abortion providers. With the appointments of Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanagh the court is different now. Louisiana is just another of several states that have moved to make it difficult for women to get safe abortions. Last year in Alabama they made a law making it a crime for doctors to perform abortions. There are now 24 states targeting the women’s right to choose with strict regulations. Should we keep women pregnant no matter what or should we respect women to do the right thing for them and their wanted children? Never forget that conception is just a night of sloppy sperm and fun for men but that night is pregnancy suffering, birth trauma and health issues for women for a very long time.
Can't you hear the WOMEN cry who represent more than half our population having others judge their bodies all the time? How about legislation governing male reproductive parts? Only 2% of convicted rapists are in jail. How about mandatory vasectomies for convicted rapists? How about castration for repeat offending convicted rapists? Who is going to raise and pay to educate unwanted kids for the next 20 years? Unwanted poor neglected children cry daily.
