Save the Women at Home

Image result for violence against women act
Republicans like to get elected and the National Rifle Association likes to give them big campaign contributions so, with all that bribery going on it is no wonder that Republicans are voting down gun laws.  Many are up for re-election inn 2020 so they need that money for their campaigns.  They are so desperate that they will even vote down on the Violence Against Women Act that should be a vote that everyone should be able to agree on.
The Violence Against Women Act is a 25 year old law that Clinton passed on September 13, 1994. The law allocates money for programs that protect women who are victims of violent crimes. The law has to be re-authorized every five years. Of coarse in this Trump era there must be controversy and there is. This time Democrats added in Section 801 on March 7, 2019 that says, "Prohibiting persons convicted of misdemeanor crimes against dating partners and persons subject to protection orders. " Yeah women want to be protected even against violent dating partners. Why is that a bad thing?
This provision would block anyone convicted of stalking a romantic partner from buying a gun. The current law only protects women from a violent or abusive husband. The NRA and Republicans are calling it the boyfriend loophole.
The NRA put out a key vote alert to their Republican folks they donate campaign contributions to that how they vote would be reflected in how they donate to their campaign. Is that a threat? WOW!
Shouldn't Republicans and Democrats alike be concerned about women's issues? There are many abusive men in relationships who are not married but live as husband and wife who are abusive to their chosen women to abuse. This extension of the law should NOT be a controversial issue but yet it is in the NRA fueled era of Trump.
The homicide rate among women in America is at a steady 16%. This is 16 more times a woman is likely to be killed by her lover than in other countries. Boyfriends, lovers and exes are pointing their weapons at their women. 33 Republicans did vote for the provision but will it pass in the Senate where Mitch and Lindsay are up for re-election? It is sad that protecting women against violent gun wielding lovers is a debatable issue at all. Maybe it wouldn't be if the NRA was NOT allowed to give influencing money to voting lawmakers. Please save American women from their violent men.
