It is a special song for peace all over the world. It is sung to tell folks to stop now and feel your heart for once. The song is Silent Night and I know that it is a Christmas song but it is only sung on Christmas Eve in Austria. Right now we have hard working Americans seeking to be consoled without a paycheck meanwhile they have serious jobs protecting us all. We have families rushing to our border seeking a Silent Night, a holy night, all is calm, all is bright, round you virgin Mother and child, sleep in heavenly peace while God’s son is born in a horse stable. The song is sung in many languages and sung worldwide for a reason. It is comforting and humbling in a world full of spite malice and revenge that never stops.
Musicians are always the most special people in society because we all know how to do what other's do but we all know how to touch everyone's heart with great music no matter what genre of music you are into. Music is the universal language of the world. Music unites us all. It is the only language written globally with its unique notation of the staff and notes, rests and crescendo markings on paper that can be written by anyone and played and performed anywhere in the world and enjoyed that persons creativity centuries later. Yeah musicians are sensitive caring people. You see it all in the lyrics we write to our songs. Many times our passions for life does get caught up in the evil business of politics and we dive into that with the same passion we have for our music. Yes it can get very ugly but the conversation must never stop just like we must always r strive to share the loving gift of our music.
The song’s message of peace has been sung in more than 300 languages. Everyone from Elvis to Nat King Cole made millions singing that song. It’s a lullaby not only for the baby Jesus but for all of us. The song relates to common people because it is easy to learn, in a good sing able range and expresses the feelings of a people.
In 1816 right after the Napoleonic wars where people rose up against their Dictator leader and said enough tyranny, the song was composed. The simple verse was written in German Stille Nacht. A priest wrote it in a small town in Austria. The song made its way to America in 1839. They sang it on the front lines in World War I. In 1814 the Americans heard it being sung by enemy troops in German. Both sides put down their weapons and joined in singing the unifying song together and the war stopped briefly for one moment. It was the Christmas truce that caused peace and unity. Here we are two centuries later and we still need to learn from the message of the simple song. We need a plea for peace and harmony today and pray for all the families seeking shelter and peace and stability for their families that humanist still can’t seem to provide.
