The End of Democracy

Democracy is failing even in democratic countries. Recently India celebrated 71 years independence from Britain and the birth of the world’s largest Democracy. Since 2012 the place has been experiencing not so democratic policies towards its people. The government calls public safety cutting access to the internet. They copied the policy from Egypt who cut off the internet to its people to cut down on organized protests through the lack of communication. What kind of democracy doesn’t have freedom of speech?

Shutdowns are not the same as censorship. In China the government will block a website or news on an entire topic as communist countries do. Russia and North Korea has government sanctioned news only. Trump would love for us to only see FOX News. But India cuts off internet access for an entire region and reinstates it hours or days later without   any notice.  India has cut off the internet to its people more than any other country since 2016. The government says the cutting off of the internet will deter protesting. Citizens should have the right to information and the right to protests.

How can anyone run an on-line business with random stoppage of the source of their customers? The policy is costing people billions of money. Since when does a democracy control the ability to buy and sell goods? Trump with his tariffs is now controlling American businesses who are losing their international customers every day. Now India just doesn’t cut the internet to stop organized protesting but the Indian government has shut down the internet to curtail supposed cheating on exams for teaching, police and government jobs. Now the lack of trust between the citizens and the government hardly exists.

Many Americans do not trust Trump’s government as he seeks to fire anyone who dares to criticize him. Trump is quick to call all our free press fake news. He is quick to control business with his tariffs. He is quick to demean our Justice Department, CIA and FBI. If he gets re-elected and becomes President till 2025, democracy may not exist in America any more.
