Fake looks Real Now

Fake news is everywhere these days in stories and now even in video that we once thought was sure proof since it is there in film. Now someone’s other face can be easily placed in someone’s other body thanks to the Open Source Facial Recognition App also known as Deepfakes. As usual new advances in technology doesn’t last too long before it is used for sinister purposes. On January 24, 2018 it was revealed to the public that fake celebrity porn was blowing up on Reddit, thanks to this form of artificial intelligence. Now terrifying high-tech porn of creepy “deepfake” videos are on the rise. So then how do we know what is real or fake?

Eventually much was banned on Reddit as a violation of company policy against involuntary pornography. The technology is not just being developed by internet trolls. It is being researched at Universities and they just don’t know how to control the problem. Where does ethics or right from wrong even exist in society anymore? The technology is so good that it is harder to detect a swapping of faces on bodies in videos. So, the government is getting involved. We have an agency now called DARPA, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency that is funded to analysis of   new technology that can identify manipulated videos. This year the agency is spending $28 million dollars to find a way to detect and control the problem.
It is a cat and mouse game. There is a plus in detection. It has been found that those faces in the fake videos do not blink. Take notice of that in every video you see. So that should be easy to detect but the battle is ongoing to try to curb the exposure of fake faces being distributed all over the internet. Fake news as all news travels quickly these days. They are expecting the quality of the fake videos to get better and better. We can all still be fooled on those Facebook feeds.
