Are you going crazy? Maybe it is
because you are doing the wrong things with your hands. People spend too much
time typing at their computers and phones and not enough time using their hands
for more therapeutic comforting tasks. It is much healthier for
your mind and body to use your hands on hobbies like playing a musical
instrument, knitting, carpentry, making art, molding clay even working on cars.
Those tasks are better for your mind because it gives you a greater sense of
accomplishment and is downright fun. Sex and romance has to be more fun too and
is a hands on activity lol. Much better than arguing with someone on line or
being in fear of someone giving you shade for any photo you post.
Washing dishes, folding clothes or
doing gardening involves using our hands. It is therapy and these kinds of
chores has been done by women all the time and believe it or not these kinds of
chores are good therapy. It is called behaviorceuticals instead of the use of pharmaceuticals.
Using your hands for tasks like carving into wood, chopping vegetables
and meats, sewing are good for your brain. When we move and engage in activities we can
actually change the chemistry in our brain in a good way devoid from the
anxiety from sitting in front of a computer screen of some type all day long. Neuroscientists are documenting this positive research.
Our brain gives us a sense of positivity when we can do something with our
hands and after we are done, feel a sense of accomplishment.
Read the bestseller book called
Shop Class as Soulcraft by Matthew B. Crawford where he documents how tinkering
with tools is his therapy in a stressful life. If you like TV, then watch reality shows that
teach you something and not reality shows that makes a bully like Trump famous
for his bullying. Good reality shows like Forged in Fire, Top Chef and Project
Runway where you can actually learn a good hands on hobby. These shows all
glorify handiwork.
From 1980 to the present growth
in desk jobs behind a computer screen has increased by 94%. Jobs requiring
physical labor skills only increased by 12%. Most of those jobs are being
replaced by computerized robots anyway. Sitting and just pressing buttons makes
you lose a sense of control over your environment. Right now I need to pet my
emotional support pet. Sigh! After all, I’m typing here now.
There is a real hand to brain connection.
Scientists tested lab rats who had to dig and work for their food vs. rats that
were just given food. Those who didn’t have to physically work for survival had
higher stress levels and went literally crazy. So, maybe instead of putting
crazy people into solitary confinement in prisons maybe we should bring back
the chain gangs to do physical labor as part of their prison sentence. Maybe
all of us who have to labor over a computer in order to earn a living should be
able to supplement our income with paid physical tasks too and we could all
benefit and get off our depression pills, suicidal tendencies, bipolar thoughts
and be in general good happy health.
