Our New Unjust Justice

Trump’s most lasting achievement for himself just might be his swift new young appointment to the Supreme Court Justice   who will remain there for decades. Now the high court will be ruling definitely to the Right. That is wrong for America as Trump has proven to be wrong for America in all America’s values and ideals. The fact is that Justice Kennedy’s son gave a billion dollar loan to Trump when no one would give him a dime, and Justice Kennedy has been ruling in favor of the Trump Administration position for 2 years as the Court decided 5-4 case after 5-4 case.

Apparently Trump has many friends in high places who he owes favors to and they owe favors to him. Justice and the American way seems to just be a phrase now. Liberals just wanted to believe that it couldn’t happen. Americans thought the Republican Congress would wait till the crucial November elections to make a decision on the new court member after all, they told Obama to wait on his appointment that everyone from both sides liked and didn’t appoint anyone till Trump got elected as if that one sided logic wasn’t wacky enough.

At least Justice Kennedy was the justice that embodied impartiality.  Recently he decided to retire after a 30 year career on the court. With his retirement the consequences for the Constitution and this country could not be higher because now the court has been changed in ways that we have not seen in our lifetimes. Expect even more protesting and a political firestorm to erupt. The Supreme Court has incredible power over politics. In the final week of Justice Kennedy’s term the Supreme Court decided on four important cases. They gave Trump a win on the Trump Travel Ban. They voted that states can’t force anti-abortion pregnancy centers that advertise health clinics to let women know that abortions are even available. The court just gave a major blow to labor unions. In all of these cases Justice Kennedy who was appointed by Regen sided with the conservatives.

What made Justice Kennedy a legend was his unpredictable swing votes. In 2005 he tipped the court in Roper v. Simmons declaring that “the death penalty cannot be imposed upon juvenile offenders “ under the age of 18 years old. In the 2015 same sex landmark case Obergefell v. Hodges Justice Kennedy wrote “Their hope is not to be condemned to live in loneliness, excluded from one of civilization’s oldest institutions. They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right” .

Now there is a new reality that is here to stay. Kennedy voted with the Liberals on abortion rights, affirmative action and marriage equality. Now there undoubtedly will be a shift on all these issues. The conservatives are in the majority in our highest court and the face of our nation will change and will divide us all even further. God  Bless America  and pray that we all can come to a common ground in a very uncommon one sided dominated government. Conservative Republican Government. Throw out the word democracy altogether now. Democracy will be seriously gone from our land.
