A New Mexico?

Why would anyone want to leave Mexico? The food is good, the Tequila is strong and the weather is always great. In fact Mexico is the third largest importer to the United States and we share a 19 hundred mile border.  Meanwhile people are running out of the place to the nearest country, America with just the shirt on their back. Why? Because the political leaders there are extremely corrupt. Half of the world is now being run by corrupt Dictators. Trump thinks it’s great and is corrupt and is personally profiting immensely from being President of the United States. No other President in American history has ever acted as he does.

They are trying to change things in Mexico because they just had massive elections. It was the biggest election in Mexican history. Positions were up for grabs from Mexico City Mayor to Congressional seats to even the next President to Mexico. The election happened yesterday on July 1, 2018.  Mexicans are fed up with their current leadership. Gas prices soared and their President’s approval rating sunk to 12%. They hate Enrique Pena. He is a handsome young man who rose to power in 2012. He is a 45 year old former governor. He married a famous soap opera star after he cheated on his first wife and had 2 children with someone else while his wife was dying from epilepsy. Corruption increased under his watch. They even have a bus tour there where you can visit 10 landmarks where public money has been corruptly taken away for private politico gain.

Many politicians in Mexico have ties with cartels and gangs. At least 14 former or current governors are under investigation for corruption some of them for colluding with organized crime. The state of Veracruz was bankrupted with nearly 3 billion dollars that   went missing of tax payer’s money there. Violence and crime has soared in Mexico with 32,000 murders this year which is double the number in 2014. Meanwhile just 2% of crimes get solved. Thankfully Enrique Pena can’t run for re-election because their President is limited to just one term in office.

The guy who won in yesterday’s election for President is known as AMLO, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador  who was a mayor of Mexico City who ran 2 other times for President in the past and lost. He won because he promises to help the poor and eradicate corruption. Unfortunately he sounds like Trump who lies all the time, makes big promises and can change his mind on issues overnight. He like Trump makes big promises while keeping his own advisors guessing as to what he really means. So maybe these two will get along and make some changes so Mexicans won’t want to storm our border with just the shirt on their backs.

This new Mexican President has a lot of followers from an evangelical Christian party known as Encuentro Social that opposes same-sex marriage, homosexuality and abortion. Yes he and Trump should be best friends soon. People are so frustrated with the lack of quality life in Mexico that they are willing to give this guy a chance. Mexico is currently the most lethal to journalists and the third deadliest place on earth after Iraq and Syria. During this election, 120 politicians have been murdered and 44 were candidates. One was murdered just last month from the town Piedras Negras who was an anti-cartel candidate. It takes immense courage for anyone to step up to the plate and try to be elected and combat all the powerful corrupt people running just about everything in Mexico. Ethics, morality and integrity is a rare thing in Mexico. Would you run out of there with just the shirt on your back too?
