You got just one more week to get
your taxes done. The lobbyists have influenced our politicians with campaign
contributions to NOT make it any easier to do our taxes. Why do I have to fill
in all those forms when the government already knows what I earn and what I
spend my money buying? They should send ME a tax return already filled in for
me to sign simply for accuracy. I get stock statements, bank statements and
earning statements from everyone. All those statements could be recorded in IRS Data
Banks for MY review. But giant tax preparers like H & R Block and Quicken
Books would be put out of business so they feed the law makers with perks so we
still have to fill out those damn forms!
Filling out tax returns is a
nightmare. What if our credit card companies sent us blank forms for us to fill
out? We would need therapy just to deal with that! They don’t make us fill our
all our purchases, add and subtract our balance or even force us to keep our
receipts. They do it all for us. The IRS could do it all for us since our
entire lives are on a computer everywhere.
The average American will spend
at least $100 dollars and 8 hours of their time figuring out what to write on
the tax forms. We have to make sense of our 1099, W2’s for our 1040 individual
income tax forms. I agree with Stamford
Law Professor Joseph Bankman who wants to make doing our taxes much easier. We
should only have to read, review and sign the forms in this day of technology.
A program could take my mortgage information, earnings statements and banking
statements and print the numbers in the required lines. We could download or
get a hard copy of it in an instant. It would save the average tax payer time
and money and more importantly save us a lot of anxiety each and every year.
Many other countries do this system
of filled out tax returns including Sweden and Australia. The idea was tossed around by
Republicans and Democrats who agreed on the system during the Regan era. So,
why didn’t it happen? Well we already have a complex tax code and the IRS is
currently suffering from a lack of funds. Trump hates having anything to do
with his tax returns. He might have to justify all that money laundered Russian
money that bailed him out of his 5 bankruptcies
The tax preparers and the tax
collectors don’t want to see their jobs be eliminated no matter how good it is
for the American public. I prefer a system where the government tells me what
they know about me and my finances rather than the guessing game that exists
now. There are 120 legislators in our government who are all being charmed with
campaign contribution from the tax preparer lobbying companies. Intuit that
owns the popular company TurboTax doesn’t want the government to make tax
preparing easier for you to do. So the IRS will not have a free tax preparing
website. Do we have to put our protest shoes on too over government making our
taxes easier? Our shoes are worn out from everything else worth protesting over
and besides we have no time to protest. We have only one week left to send
those damn tax papers in!
