Then there are the Disney movies
and Broadway productions of Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King and
now Frozen. Many Broadway Musicals have been running for a very long time so
there should be a big market for them on TV. Les Miserables ran on Broadway
from 1987-2003, Cats ran from 1982-2000, The Lion King has been on Broadway since
1997 and is still there, The Chicago (Revival) is on Broadway since 1996 and is
still there and the longest running Broadway show is The Phantom of the Opera
since 1988 and is still on Broadway so people love musicals.
Now there is Frozen on Broadway
that will be trying to move from the movies to live action. We all saw the success
of The Lion King and the elaborate stage production where talented artists
transformed people into believable moving animals. Frozen will be on Broadway
to have a more adult theme and to embrace the power of women that is an
emerging topic lately with the Me Too and Never Again movement of female
empowerment sweeping the country. Frozen is the highest grossing animated movie
of all time. Elsa the Ice Queen and her sister Anna will be singing brand new
songs along with the familiar favorites like Let It Go. It will be a glossy
multi-million dollar frozen wonderland on stage with giant icicles and a 15
pound crystal gown and a 5 foot tall snowman named Olaf.
The theme of Frozen is all about
female empowerment. The famous song called Let it Go is all about letting go of expectations, being perfect all
the time, of doing everything for everybody else ,all issues that most women
struggle with daily. The composers of the music in Frozen Robert Lopez and his
wife Kristen Anderson-Lopez are two time Oscar winners who have composed a
dozen new songs for the Broadway production. Although the musical has a talking
snowman, it does have adult themes. The story is about two princesses who break
their own spell. It is about sacrifice where one sacrifices her own childhood
for her sister. Their selflessness save themselves. It is about two women who
find love not necessarily from a romantic interest but love from your best
friend.
There is a Prince Charming or two
but in this story the Prince isn’t so charming after all. The good guy is
Kristoff and both Princes get the girl but neither one ends up with the girl. Elsa
is like Hamlet in that she goes into the world and starts having a debate with
herself as to who she is and where she is in life and why she is going into the
direction she is going to. The story is about love that doesn’t stop at
childhood. The princesses also wear pants when they are on the run. If you care,
see it to witness women that are about three dimensional in leadership dealing
with love and their own relationships.
