Boycotting the National Rifle Association

People are fed up with the inaction of our lawmakers and are taking matters in their own hands. No they are NOT buying more guns they are boycotting the National Rifle Association and companies that cater to the organization. Americans want to know why the NRA is classified as a tax-exempt social welfare organization?    How is it considered “social welfare” when in reality it encourages killing living things? We know that they have contributed over $30 million dollars to Trump and too many other politicians for political influence. It worked. Trump signed an executive order that repealed Obama Era gun checks for people with mental illnesses that made it harder for them to purchase guns. The Florida school shootings leaving 17 dead and 15 wounded is the one year anniversary of Trumps soft stance on the subject of mental illnesses and guns.

Trump wants to have teachers arm themselves with weapons. That means even more support for gun organizations but citizens want it all to stop. The students are leaving classes to protest in the streets and in town halls. Trump’s policies are causing chaos yet again in America. Well the protests are reaching out to the cash register. Big companies and popular brands are lashing out at the organization that encourages children with guns. Companies that include Hertz, Best Western, MetLife, Budget and FedEx will no longer be supporting the NRA.
There is a #boycott the NRA movement spreading across American consumers. Big car rental companies like Hertz, Avis and Enterprise rent-a-car say that they will no longer be offering discounts to members of the National Rifle Association. Best Western, MetLife and Chubb Insurance all are discontinuing deals with NRA members. The boycott is growing on social media with the #BoycottNRA. Even FedEX offers discounts to NRA members. Do Veterans get all these discounts?
Teens were killed and they have a lot of influence in household spending. They are not ignorant and are already putting pressure on their parents to no longer support companies who offer discounts to NRA members. The 18 year old is the most powerful consumer that sets the tone for household spending. Scott Galloway a Marketing Professor from New York University makes note that it is the older teen that has a lifetime of consumer spending ahead of them and companies want their future business.
In the heartland the largest privately held bank in America, First National Bank of Omaha, no longer will be offering the $35 bonus statement credit cards that with every purchase helps fund NRA programs. What are the programs? Bribing politicians for influence in granting laws in their favor? America already has 500 million weapons in civilian hands. First National Bank said, “Customer feedback has caused us to review our membership with the NRA. As a result, First National Bank of Omaha will not renew its contract with the National Rifle Association to issue the NRA Visa Card.
As usual most people in America do not agree with Trump’s solutions to the problem. People rather agree with Nicole Hockley whose 6 year old son was killed in the SandyHook Massacre in Newtown, Ct. She is with an organization called SandyHook Promise that feels that no child should be unsafe in school or anywhere else in America. Trump has the power now if he wanted to fund more for mental health issues, Trump could be passing the Stop School Violence Act enabling prevention programs and support systems for troubled students. The bill has already passed in the House and is being held up in the Senate. Trump could be urging swift passage of the bill instead of encouraging teachers to have guns inn schools. The deaths are preventable with sensible solutions. It is NOT a Second Amendment issue. It is a safety issue for all American citizens in schools, concerts, movie theaters and just about anywhere crazy people are with weapons in their hands.
