The Stupid Senate Shutdown

The Stupid Senate’s Shutdown is over for just two weeks. It was a three day shutdown that caused havoc all over the country with Republicans and Democrats at each other’s throats in the blame game. Meanwhile our Art of the Deal President remained silent. We don’t need any circus anymore, we have our government for wacky entertainment. But it is NOT entertaining when our soldiers go without pay, our air traffic controllers have to work without pay, our DACA kids still have an uncertain future, our tourism is deflated and on and on. Not only was the military not paid but their TV was closed so they couldn't even see the all important Football games overseas this past weekend that determined the teams playing in the Superbowl. 

Our paid Congress no matter what passed a funding bill on January 22, 2018 but by February 8, 2018 the government funding will end. Is that a solution they pondered over for three days of havoc? NO The only real thing accomplished was something no one from either side objected to that was to extend the low-income children’s health insurance program called CHIP for six years. That should remain now no matter who is our next President. So 9 million kids and pregnant women will continue to get benefits. So, our Republican dominated government is against abortion. They would rather have the tax payer pay for possibly unwanted children that no one can afford to raise on their own.

The CHIP program expired this past September. Now it is back. Republicans are happy because this government shutdown ends with NO fix for the DACA kids. 700 thousand undocumented children of illegal immigrants who are educated, have jobs, pay their taxes still have a threat of imminent deportation. The Democrats in the Senate at least got Republican Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to agree to hold a vote on DACA kids fate in America. Even if they eventually vote yes, who knows how Speaker Paul Ryan will let it pass a House vote? They are all Republicans and they hate the DACA kids. Besides, the government will probably shut down again in two weeks anyway. What a mess our Republican dominated government has made of America!

In American history this is the first government shutdown to occur when one political party controls the entire legislative process the House, Senate and the White House. The inflated debate over so few DACA kids who cost the government nothing, who represent so few of people residing in this country, who just want to live and work in the only home they have ever known should not be a reason for party divisions and not rest on closing our entire government down. Even during the shutdown during the Obama era. He made sure the Military got paid. The Democrats compromised and even agreed to pay tax payer funds for Trump's wall. But the Republicans would not budge on the DACA kids issue. Our elected leaders have selfishly gone insane probably because none of this effects them directly. They all voted themselves job security, full pay at all times and an excellent health benefit at taxpayer expense. Meanwhile, many Americans have to be in fear of getting laid off or having to work for no pay. The richest country in the world, America, should not be doing this to their own tax paying people.

WHY DID THIS POINTLESS SHUTDOWN HAPPEN ANYWAY? They approved something the CHIP program that everyone agreed on anyway and put on hold anything that they disagreed upon. Do these Congressional leaders even know how much power they have over the American people and how irresponsibly they act? Our elected Congress of Senators have only a 13% approval rating among all Americans and stuff like this damaging nonsense is why!
