The Problem With Pot

Related imageWhat is the problem with pot in this country? One thing for sure is that Trump is actively trying to erase anything Obama did in this country. Jeff Sessions just scraped the Obama-era guidelines easing Marijuana restrictions meanwhile California just approved of pot selling for fun and not just for medicinal purposes.  People smoke pot to mellow out and to ease their personal state of confusion. Being able to smoke pot shouldn’t be confusing but it is.  Instead of sweeping changes, Trump should be emptying the jails that include lots of people still incarcerated for smoking small amounts of pot years ago. How about Trump should be cracking down on the Opioid crisis where pharmaceutical companies and bad doctors continue to flood the market with dangerous addictive killing prescription drugs?
In 2012 there were almost a million pot related arrests and every year after that.  Then   various states decided to legalize the sale of pot probably so they could collect tax money on the sale of the plant. Putting people in jail costs money, taxing the sale of the stuff brings in money for individual state budgets. Washington State and Colorado in 2012 legalized medical marijuana. In November 2012 19 other states legalized medical pot too. Oregon, Nevada, California, Arizona, Michigan, New Mexico, Vermont, Maine, Rhode Island,  Connecticut, New Jersey, Delaware, Hawaii and Alaska.
In November 2012 Washington and Colorado expanded to allow smoking pot for fun. It became the 64th Amendment to the Constitution legalizing Marijuana for Recreational Use. Obama pulled back on the federal law of enforcement and said. “Enforcement of state law by state and local law enforcement and regulatory bodies should remain the primary means of addressing marijuana related activity.”  Suddenly the prisons had fewer people in them for pot related crimes.
In 2016 another three states decided to legalize marijuana for recreational or medical use. Meanwhile lying Trump in his campaign promises stated on July29, 2016 in an interview with the Channel 9 Denver News said, “I think the marijuana policy should be left up to the states.” So, why now as President has he changed his mind? Does he even have a mind?
Trump’s pick for Attorney General, Jeff Sessions, said, “Good people don’t smoke marijuana and it’s in fact a very real danger.” WHAT??? Who the hell asked him for his personal opinion about pot and what facts is he even basing this opinion on? THIS IS ALL AN EXAMPLE WHEN YOU ALLOW CRAZY PEOPLE TO BE IN POSITIONS OF POWER!

Now this guy has paved the way for more pot prosecutions. So now what for the 29 states who now say it is legal in their state? If this is Trump’s attempt on   the war on drugs, he is a failure since so many states have voted to approve the sale of pot.  How much more money is he going to cost the taxpayers to fill up the jails with pot smokers and have to hire pot police officers? Someone has to take control over our nation’s policies and have ONE policy on any issue and apply the ruling to all states so we can once again be the UNITED states!
