"Me Too" Unless You Work for Congress

Sexual Harassment is full frontal now with allegations coming forward anywhere to anyone it seems. News men, actors, TV personalities, coaches, clergy and any occupation seems to have sexual predators. Lately the issues are not being ignored or hidden anymore. Law suits are bankrupting the Catholic Church to pay for pedophile Priests. Millions of dollars from Roger Ailes and Bill O’Reiley have been paid out in hush money to hide their unwanted sexual advances but who is policing politicians when they sexually harass people? They are NOT passing laws making themselves libel for their crimes and that is a crime to America.
Congress has its own Harassment issues to deal with. Following in the “Me Too” movement of victims coming forward with their unwanted sex claims, earlier today more than 1,200 former Cabinet Hill Staffers submitted an open letter calling for reforms in our lawmakers Harassment policy. This evening the Senate unanimously passed legislation requiring mandatory sex harassment training for all senators and staff. Really? Even our top lawmakers are pigs? Does anyone have any ethics lately? As early as next week Democratic Congresswoman Jackie Speier is expected to introduce a Bill to overhaul the way complaints are handled. She was sexually harassed as a staffer too.
Congress plays by its own set of rules when it comes to sexual harassment and that needs to STOP. Since the Harvey Weinstein allegations came forward industry after industry has been revealing offenders especially in our famous entertainer categories. Kevin Spacey has 14 accusers and is being literally erased from his new movie. Lewis CK is receding from his career. 200 more women share their James Toback stories after 38 accuse the director of sex crimes. These guys are losing their careers but what about the sexual predators in government? Our government is an industry too. Who is going to reprimand the lawmakers who create the laws but have no laws to charge THEM with a crime?
The male to female ratio on Capitol Hill is not equal. The staffers are 8,137 men to 7,876 women. The members of Congress who are their boss have 429 men and only 110 women. The Chiefs of Staff is mostly men at 369 to only 168 women. Have you noticed that ALL the sexual predators are ugly men who like to expose their genitals to women in unwanted sexual advances?
Alexis Ronickher is an employment rights attorney who specializes in representing people who have been sexually harassed while working in Congress. There are so many people that she can keep busy devoting her entire practice to this type of defense.   Most of the staffers she represents are young staffers in their 20’s to early 30’s. It’s really hard to get justice for sexual harassment in Congress. Those bloated Congressmen found the time TO WRITE THEMSELVES A LAW, the Congressional Accountability Act of 1995 that makes it harder to prove sexual harassment than in any other work place. Lets compare:
Private Sector                     vs, Congress
Alleged incident                 Alleged incident
File Suit                              Counselling (a 30 day period)
                                            Decision to proceed
                                            Mediation (another 30 day period}
                                            “Cooling off” period (another 30 day period of just waiting)
                                            File Suit
Why do Congressmen get all this extra time to blah blah before a victim can file a law suit? The law is definitely designed to protect the closed doors of Congressmen and their activities. While this lengthy process in happening YOU CANT TELL A SOUL. Why not? When abusers are exposed the media is the first to know and word travels fast and now their careers are finally ruined. Why does Congressmen get to keep their jobs till they are drooling in their wheelchairs and spend a career of possibly violating their staffers sexually who can’t even speak out? The law has strict confidentially rules about telling anyone about your harassment allegations.
WOMEN ARE THE SEXUALLY HARASSED AND WE NEED A NEW LAW TO PROTECT THEM AND ANYONE ELSE HARASSED IN OUR GOVERNMENT
