It Is A New Era

Dirty old men are making it difficult to avoid them since their work is everywhere. Writing a list to avoid the work of the guys we loved on TV and in the movies is exhausting. I do not want to endorse these guys  but I loved their work.  I hate the men for violating the space and bodies of women but I loved to laugh to Bill Cosby and Louis C.K.. I loved the films of Kevin Spacey, Woody Allen and Weinstein produced films but I’m not sure I can ever enjoy their work that is or should have been apart from their sick personal lives. We need to have more women in power in all industries because on average women care for people and usually do not violate children and co-workers sexually.
We need to hold our lawmakers accountable for the offending things they say and do. Trump never should have been awarded with a new job after it was revealed that he gets to know women by “grabbing them by the pussy.” Roy Moore should not be elected to office now that we know he initiated sexual encounters with teenage girls as young as 14 when he was in his 30’s. This Republican candidate for Senator in Alabama was wearing his Cowboy hat and waving around his little gun while speaking at a campaign rally. This hypocrite is always touting about how devout a religious guy he is but in reality he is a sexual predator.
The actress Alyssa Milano recently made a most memorable tweet unlike the nonsense Trump tweets. She said, ”If all women who have been sexually harassed or assaulted write, Me Too as a status, we might give people a sense of the magnitude of the problem.” So millions of people have come out posting, Me Too. It is brave and important to speak out and not to be shamed by anyone. This is not a male thing or a female thing, a Hollywood thing   or a political thing. It is a human thing. It happens at work, it happens to children and all over the world. What we all need and should expect is love, respect and kindness.
Part of the problem is that girls are taught to stay quiet and be nice. Boys are told that they are strong and that somehow women are less than males. This attitude makes it hard for women to speak out and even when women do speak out people don’t believe them. For this reason it is important to not be silent anymore. There is power in numbers and it is good that every one that has been abused by someone in power speak out and let the world know who the rich and famous really are if they are a disgusting human being in real life. Women and men and parents of abused children are speaking out in the media on Facebook and Twitter and to the press for the first time even if they were abused years ago. The memory never fades of an assault.

If our courts won’t convict Bill Cosby or Weinstein or others who have failed humanity we can at least stand strong in the conversation and endorsement for respect and civility towards our fellow human beings. The conversation will teach our little girls to be strong and that little boys should be kind and hopefully the next generation won’t be full of such sick pigs.
