America could do better for America. Instead of polluting oil pipelines littering our landscape how about sea water pipelines across California to provide enough water to combat raging forest fires destroying the landscape and American homes? Instead of electing a President who throws rolls of paper towels at flood destroyed Americans how about providing people with portable water purifying systems available to anyone who needs it? Instead of burning as much of global warming fossil fuels as we can how about promoting the technology available to have large ships propelled by wind? China already is the world’s largest user of solar energy and is taking large steps to be less polluting. What is Trump promoting? Nothing besides himself. He campaigns for re-election.

There are close to 50 thousand merchant ships in the world’s oceans that is 90% of international trade. The ships emit enough pollution to supply another industrialized nation. The shipping industry doesn’t care and has no plans to make cleaner ships. Who cares when the pollution is being emitted across oceans?  When are these money hungry idiots going to realize that the fossil burning fuels are ruining the earth?  There is a new solution available globally. It is called a Frigate spinner that can be on every vessel in our oceans.

In Rotterdam, The Netherlands this technology is being used. They have a huge cargo ship called the Estraden that transports cargo six   times per week. For the past three years it has been the center of an experiment aimed on reducing shipping fuel consumption. It has two high   cylinders that sit atop the ship known as roto sails. There are companies now that specialize in green energy designed for the shipping industry. One successful company is Norsepower that is producing the tall cylinders that doesn’t look like a sail. It can produce the same lift with a lot smaller sail area. It is now the most efficient way to build a sail. You don’t need large amounts of fabric to catch the wind.

This technology is called the Magnus effect. When wind hit the cylinders they spin really fast. It creates a difference in pressure between the front and rear of each cylinder which is exactly what happens on airplane wings. This is just in a different direction. The air pressure pushes the vessel forward. This technology was being used in the 1920’s but it wasn’t until recently that they became advanced enough to become economically viable. If Trump would only stop watching bad commentary on TV and start watching something that could be good for this country. When the cylinders are turning at full power in the long term they can save roughly 400 tons of fuel each year. That’s equaling more than 1,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year.

On an average trip the cylinder technology can save the owners of a cargo ship $400 dollars EVERY DAY. Why doesn’t Trump the great business leader do some business for the economy and our pollution problems?  He has the power to at least offer tax breaks to any cargo company willing to switch to this type of clean energy.  $400 dollars might not sound like a lot of money for a shipping company but add the savings up across a fleet, it can be profitable too. Maersk is the biggest shipping company in the world and they are beginning to switch to cylinder power. The sadest thing is that we could all do this today globally if only just one world leader would promote it and make sure that their country uses clean air technology.

Without clear regulations none of these new advances will be put into effect. Quick profits are more important than our carbon imprint to business. If oil prices remain low this technology sadly will sink to the bottom of the ocean. Can you do something to change things for the better? Sigh!
