Trump's DACA=Dump All Children Anyway

Trump’s immigration policies have torn apart many families and he probably isn’t done yet. Now the target is the DACA folks. They are Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.  It is another Obama program he wishes to destroy that includes about 100,000 undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as children and has never known any other home. They know America and has never lived anywhere else but in America after their arrival here. This Obama-era program protected these children from deportation. Trump might let some stay here until their work permits expire.

What is at stake   here is, what is the definition of an American? If Trump takes away this program about 10,000 students in about a dozen states in this country would lose their teachers. America has undocumented teachers who worked very hard to pay for their education here illegible for student loans who had parents working many minimum wage jobs to pay for their child’s education. We have undocumented medical students, firefighters, policemen and people serving in the military. Good law abiding tax paying citizens who add to the overall quality of our lives as a nation. Should these people have to be in fear of being deported when just a year ago their lives were protected?

It has been reported that 73% of Trump supporters want him to leave DACA alone and not to disband the program. So who is the President really serving by doing such a radical change in policy? Does he realize that $1.2 billion dollars would be gone without these people serving our communities? 95% of DACA recipients are working in schools, hospitals, firefighters and policemen. 54% of these children of immigrants are old enough to have bought their first cars.

These children worked tireless to pay for their tuitions in colleges. They feel that the lack of a document should not define them. This issue is way more important than simply being legal. Where will these people go when America is the only home they have known? It is not like Trump will be providing these law abiding hard working professionals in their fields jobs anywhere else in the world to continue in the jobs and careers they have been trained to do here. That would take a United Nations planning commission. Trump plays golf and plays often. He does little planning about anything. He was elected because he is only good at barking ill-planned orders.

This issue is not about legal papers, it is about what   America wants to do with these people. It should be remembered that these people were brought here as young children and had no say in where they were going and why. At least they have grown to be good educated law abiding tax paying citizens without the help from any government agencies along their hard journey into adulthood. Trump is telling these people that their voices don’t matter and won’t listen to their prospective on how they have evolved in this country. Maybe he just doesn’t care about the issue and his motivation to disband the program is just yet another attempt to erase Obama’s legacy.

A responsible person works on creating safe places for others they care about. How can these people care about others when their existence here is in jeopardy? They grew up hearing from their parents that if you work hard you can get anywhere in life. The reality is that they might be going nowhere here anymore. Obama’s DACA program at least protected these undocumented children of immigrants for the past 5 years. It granted temporary permission to study and work in the United States. It was a 2012 executive order that protected 800,000 undocumented children. He gave hope to patriotic young educated driven people. The kind of people our society needs.

As usual Congress needs to get off vacations and pass a law deciding if they stay or leave instead of this bouncing as political ruling administrations change every 4 or 8 years. When someone has to live in fear of everything being taken away from them they lose faith in the system. Lose faith in their own lives. If DACA is taken away these people could lose their driver’s license and job credentials. All their lives they have had to live in fear of deportation. 2.5 million people   have already been deported. This uncertainty will just make folks go back into hiding, not get a good education, work for cash, will not report rapes or robberies or murders for fear of being exposed and deported themselves. Ending DACA would be a backward step in creating a good society for all Mr. Trump and all your wacky supporters. Ugh!
