We hear a lot about the
destruction of Texas but no one talks about the destruction of Oklahoma.
Cushing Oklahoma is considered the Saudi Arabia of America because there is
more oil stored there than any other place in North America. The place is also experiencing
a lot of earthquakes. Since 2008 the state has gone from averaging from 2 a
year to now 2 a day. The experts reported that the dramatic increase of the
quakes is because of the disposal of waste water from the oil production
process known as hydraulic fracturing or fracking.
Jake Walter is the
State Seismologist from the Oklahoma Geological Society. He has been tracking
the steady increase of earthquakes happening over the last decade. There are
thousands of oil wells all over Oklahoma and is the place that has a lot of
faults in some of the deepest sedimentary rocks. In order to work the machines
in the wells a high volume of water has been injected into the wells. All that
water is working its way into the fault lines deep in the earth causing it to
slip and cause an earthquake. With the exception of Alaska, Oklahoma has become
the most schismatically active state in America. We could only blame ourselves
for being so greedy for the disturbances. Keep Oklahoma as farmland and leave
the deep earth alone.
The earthquakes are clearly
happening where the injection wells are working. The earthquakes have become
more severe with time to be at least a 5.0 in intensity. The hazards are very
real and we should be more concerned about the impact to us. The threat to
infrastructure in the cities have not stopped the oil rich companies to even
curtail oil production. They don’t care about the environment just profits. Trump
supports this environmentally disastrous policy for companies. If the government won’t stop this than who
will? Must Americans put on their protest shoes everywhere all the time? We don’t have time. We have to work and feed
our families.
Shale Oil Production in the
United States has skyrocketed over a thousand percent since the year 2000 now
even more with the support of a more oil friendly administration. We all
thought Trump would hire big business leaders to help America and not to help
destroy America for profits. Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson was the former
CEO of ExxonMobil so you know he doesn’t want to stop fracking. The oil
industry now has 32,000 miles of new and planned pipelines in the works all
across North America. Maybe if they had water pipelines across America there
wouldn’t be so many forest fires or flooding issues. The controversial Dakota
new access pipeline has already leaked gallons of oil in this past April. The
entire promotion of more oil production is already proven to be both catastrophic
to our environment and health.
Luckily the leaks hasn’t impacted
our drinking water yet. The Missouri River by Standing Rock, North Dakota would
be very vulnerable to pollution if the pipelines leaked badly. The river waters are close along the shores of
the water towers and treatment plants. Who designed this nightmare waiting to
happen for America? The pipeline threatens the water supply carrying 550
thousand barrels of crude oil daily. Our political system says it is all legal.
When did Americans vote for this? We can’t continue under this dangerous path
to even more destruction of our states. What does Trump mean when he says
America first? America first to fail?
There are currently over 150
major pipelines in the works planned to be built all over the country. Is this
the kind of jobs we want to just possibly put our lands and lives into even
more jeopardy? Pipeline protests are springing up too across America but how
effective can protests be if our entire government is being represented by oil barons
like Rex Tillerson? You can’t drink oil, keep it in the soil is the protest
chant. The fight for clean water is a battle for the soul of our nation. We see
how Texas is now suffering from the lack of drinking water due to the hurricane
disaster there. All people in our nation must protect and preserve our precious
God given water supplies.
