It is spring. A time for nature’s
rebirth. All the plants are growing from their silence in winter. The weeds
grow sometimes larger and wider than the flowering plants we really want. So the process of making room for the growth
of the beautiful flowers begins. Efforts will be taken so that the beauty will
be able to flourish no matter how small they are now. America is now going
through a re-birth too. All winter our dreams and aspirations were being
stifled through many executive orders threatening to take away the meager funds
that support our environment through the Environmental Protection
Administration, the Arts through programs like The Endowment of the Arts and Health
Care. People woke up and protested and attended town hall meetings and wrote to
their Congressmen that we didn’t want
our good seeds bulldozed over; our wonderful programs to die that help us all
to flourish as a people.
Politicians want to be well
liked. They count on loyal followers to vote for them so they can flourish
politically. So, when angry mobs of people protest their every word at town
halls. When their mail is full of messages from disgruntled voters, when a
Congressman’s reelection is in jeopardy. They listen. In the past 100 days
Trump had his way and set the mood for what he thought was important. The
American people are angry and do not agree with his policies. We have found out
that he cheated and bribed the Russians into helping him get elected. The FBI
Director admitted that his actions to do further investigations into Hillary’s
e-mails just 12 days before the election cost her votes. Why didn’t he reveal
the Russian intervention he knew about before the election too? If Americans
knew how close Trump was to the Russians then, would we have elected Trump?
Congress just approved a Spending
Bill to keep the Federal Government funded for about 6 months. Yes, America is
not a wealthy country anymore. We owe trillions of dollars to China. Trump’s
focus in his proposal was to fund heavily more money to the military and more
money for his personal security. Thankfully Congress approved some of the small
things like perennial flowers that Americans always flourished with. Are the Politicians
finally listening to the wants and needs of the American people?
Good things in the Spending Bill
include funding for the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment
for the Humanities and Corporation for Public Broadcasting was saved.
The Environmental Protection
Agency budget is mostly still intact.
This temporary Budget does not
defund Planned Parenthood.
It does not defund sanctuary cities
It does not fund a border wall.
So we have a small victory here
but yet it is still a victory for many of the issues Americans have been
fighting for. This is what Congress passed as a short-term funding bill to
avoid a government shutdown. This deal
will keep the government open through September. Ironically with a Republican President, House
and Senate majority, the Democrats got everything they wanted. Somehow the
small flowers were able to be seen through the large crop of stink weeds
dominating our government.
