Impeachment is a power of our government in Article II that people know little about. It is not the cure all that people believe it is. At least it can keep the Americans informed of the crimes a sitting President is doing. There are 3 important things to know about Impeachment. 1. Impeaching a President does not remove them from office. The Constitution states that the House of Representatives shall have the sole Power of Impeachment. The Constitution says "The President... shall be removed from office on Impeachment for, and conviction of , Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors."
2. Even if the House of Representatives votes for Impeachment the President can't be removed from the job until the Senate agrees to do so. This is probably why Nancy Pelosi was reluctant to do so at first. The Constitution says, "The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments.". We all know that the current Republican Senate never sees any evil of Trump's Presidency. So then why Impeach?
3. A large productive investigation can be done to even force Trump to directly testify before Congress as Bill Clinton did. It was the lies Clinton said before Congress that got him fired. Can Trump say anything under oath without lying? Probably not. The House will have great leverage to subpoena the White House. The extensive investigation might convince the American people to see Trump's true colors. In May of 1973 when the Watergate hearings began, the Gallup Poll found that just 19% said that Nixon should be impeached. By the time Nixon resigned after the House voted for his Impeachment , 15 months later, 57% were in favor of removing Nixon from office. Right now the overall support for Trump's Impeachment has been fluctuating between 35% and 38%.
The main reason to Impeach Trump is because it is the right thing to do. He thinks he is above the law and no President should ever be above our laws of this land.
