As our bridges and roads are crumbling from old age and extreme flooding we should never forget all that great work they did to build many of our famous bridges at the turn of the century that brought all of America together. Just look at the Mississippi River where the great city of St. Louis sits in Missouri. They needed to build a bridge across the river to connect with other parts of America quickly since railroads were the new quicker way to bring goods everywhere.
Enter James Eads who was a self taught engineer that never built a bridge before in his life but in 1867 St. Lewis hired him anyway and he built that city a lifeline to the rest of America. He built the first steel bridge anywhere in the world. There wasn't any other bridge like this on earth. It took seven years to build at a cost of 10 million dollars. The most amazing thing is that the bridge is still in use carrying cars and trains across its wide span. The structure is now a National Landmark.
Now the same bridge will be a life line for women's rights since the Missouri governor just signed an abortion ban. Missouri could become the first state with zero abortion clinics. As of now the entire state only has one Planned Parenthood location still open. When that closes down, women will have to cross our nation's first bridge to go to Illinois for their care and rights.
We need to take care of our fragile and all so important bridges and infrastructure since they are a life line to All Americans with whatever need they need.
