Are we the generation who are witnesses to disasters? We have seen the Twin Towers crumble before our eyes, the destruction of Ancient Egypt by ISIS, entire cities destroyed by weapons in Syria and Afghanistan and now we had to witness the destruction of the iconic 800 year old Cathedral in France that had endured and stood through and survived the French Revolution and the two World Wars but couldn't survive a restoration project. The world watched in horror once again the destruction of a place that should never crumble in our hearts.
It took 500 firefighters to battle the flames with inadequate too short ladders and inadequate fire hoses. The Cathedral of Notre Dame in France was destroyed. Rescuers were able to save priceless art and relics that included a tiny piece of Christ's thorn in his crown as he was being crucified. Survived were the two iconic towers standing at the end and the gorgeous spiral stained glass in the middle.
It took two centuries to build the church. Construction began in 1163 with the massive towers finished in 1245. It was built in a French Gothic style with Gargoyles carved in stone to protect the structure. If you have never visited France and seen the Cathedral or even had a visit in your bucket list before you died chances are now that you will die before the place can even be reconstructed again despite the hundreds of millions of dollars already donated to rebuild.
Notre Dame was where Napoleon was declared the Emperor of France. Victor Hugo wrote his book called Notre-Dame De Paris where his Hunchback character was revealed who lived in the bell tower. The book was later revised to simply be called The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Disney made a cartoon movies based on the character who lived in this church.
Notre Dame was the most visited location in all of France. It housed 13 million tourists per year that is nearly double the amount of tourists that visit the Eiffel Tower each year. It was undergoing a $6 million dollar restoration project when disaster struct. Just days before statues of the Apostles were taken off the lead roof for restoration.
New York is now grateful for all the precautions the F.D.N.Y. took during the restoration process of St. Patrick's Cathedral during 2016 where there were fire fighters present 24/7. Where now it is equipped with state of the art fine misting sprinklers and fire retardants to be used at the slightest hint of fire.
As usual in Disastrous Donald's ignorance he quickly suggested that helicopters drop buckets of water on the structure. Experts just as quickly revealed that if that was done, even the fragile walls would have caved in immediately from the water pressure shocking the structure from above. Why did Trump allow California to burn to the ground and not employ our Armed Forces to drop buckets of water from helicopters to stop the destructive forest firers that killed hundreds and was considered the worst wild fire destruction that destroyed entire towns in California history?
