A Breath of Fresh Air

She is a breath of fresh air in a Congress filled with old turtle faced turds who are multi-millionaires bought and sold by lobbyists who give them large campaign contributions so they look the other way in legislation away from big corporate America that Trump has rewarded very well from big tax breaks to no pollution restrictions in their companies. She won a Congressional seat and is the youngest woman ever elected in Congress and represents our new generation of young educated citizens plagued by poor wages and high student loans concerned by climate control for the benefit of the next generation of all Americans. She is Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Trump is worried about her influence and already has not wasted any time getting his red hat army all worried about socialism comparing her in some warped way to the evils of socialism that is going on in Venezuela now where the Dictator is starving his own people. Trump likes drama and is constantly telling lies. A Democratic Socialist is not a Marxist Socialist or a Communist. A Democratic Socialist is still a Capitalist, just one who seeks to restrain the self-destructive excesses of Capitalism and channel government's use of our tax money into creating opportunities for everyone. Democratic Socialists believe that that both the economy and society should be run democratically to meet human needs, not simply to make profits for a greedy few.

She has already called for a select committee on climate change without any members of Congress who accept money from the fossil fuel industry and has already gotten 40 members of Congress to support her climate committee. The Green New Deal is becoming popular that she initiated already. The very ambitious plan is to convert the entire economy within 12 years to renewable energy while guaranteeing every American a fair wage. Her plan is to have tax rates go back to what was done in the 1960’s where the very wealthy paid 70% on their money over $10 million dollars. As you get wealthier, you should be contributing more.

Alexandria realizes that it is all a radical idea but it was the radical leaders who proposed the most change and were the most memorable in the history of America. Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation that freed the slaves. Roosevelt made the radical decision to create Social Security. This girl has parents who met in Puerto Rico and was raised in the Bronx. Her dad owned a small architectural business while her mother cleaned houses. They were eventually able to buy a small home in Westchester County NY and she benefited greatly from the suburban schools. She did well in school and got scholarships to attend the $60,000 per year tuition at Boston University. She had loans and financial aid to supplement her scholarship since that did not cover the costs of housing, food or books. Then the unthinkable happened.

Her dad died of Cancer in her sophomore year. The classic American dream was taken away from her since her mom was the only source of income now. She moved back to the Bronx, was a waitress and launched her Congressional campaign from her one bedroom apartment she shared with her boyfriend. She had student loans to pay and no health insurance. She is living proof that the economy is NOT so great for young educated Americans struggling to survive. She campaigned door to door and won taking over the job from a ten time elected guy who spent most of his time in Washington as Mitch McConnell does and he is supposed to be doing something for the poor state of Kentucky. This girl speaks for the future of America and deserves to be given a chance.
