Rights in Society

Image result for the Sergei Magnitsky Act
There was once a lawyer who fought for human rights in Russia. Just like Frank Serpico exposed corruption in the NYC Police Department, this guy exposed corruption in Russia. He exposed $230 million dollars in tax fraud where funds were being placed in Swiss bank accounts and in off shore companies by Putin.  In 2009 this guy, Sergie Magnitsky was tortured and killed. Now here in the United States we have The Magnitsky Act. The Act authorizes the United States Government to sanction people in Russia for human rights violations. It freezes their assets and prevents offenders from entering the United States. All good until Trump stole the Presidency with Russian interference and acts like a agent more for Russia than for America.
The spy who met with Donald Trump Jr. in Trump Tower before the election was petitioning World Wide to have the Magnitsky Act removed. There are opposition leaders in Russia who have been poisoned, jailed and beaten for just trying to have a fair election over the past 17 years that Putin has been in control over Russia. The global expansion of Putin is a clear threat to democracy. Our current leaders in America have close financial ties to Putin.  Mitch McConnell the Republican leader, Vice-President Pence, all of Trump’s closest appointments and direct favoritism by our President Trump too all lead to Russia.
Trump pulling out of our allies Paris Climate Change Accord is favored by Putin who wants the Artic to melt so that he can control new shipping lanes in the frigid waters there that was once all ice caps. Trump pulling out of Syria and Afghanistan before a clear democracy is established is just giving those regions that American troops have been fighting in for the past 20 years is a regional gift to Putin. Trump just lifted the sanctions against Russia for interfering with our election process. Our democracy is in danger when our President closes down our government putting our lives in danger just so that he can close down the courts from prosecuting him further. In just 2 years he has appointed   90 new judges who pledge allegiance to him and 2 Supreme Court Justices that do not vote independently from his views.
If we learned anything from the past election, we learned that it is important that we stand by in human rights. The journalist working in America who was murdered by the Saudi’s for being a reporter is a violation of human rights. Trump’s allegiance to Saudi Arabia who all the terrorists came from in the 911 disaster is a violation of our democracy since he did nothing to reprimand them. In fact he sold them millions of dollars in weapons. The Saudi’s spend billions to line the pockets of Trump personally in buying and renting his most expensive apartments. We cannot let Trump and his best friend Putin use our democracy as some kind of slush fund while taking money from Russian taxpayers.
Torturing, putting people in jail for speaking out publically and trying to stop any kind of rights we have in this country including voting rights must not be violated by our Treasonous leader. We should know Sergie’s legacy and continue to fight for freedom.
