If the trees could talk

Image result for trees on the battlefield over dead soldiers

Is America heading towards another Civil War? Every day in the news, on social media and in our work places we are met with some kind of political, ethical or moral controversy especially since the explosive self-promoting at all cost character Donald Trump got elected. Love him or hate him, Obama at least had a comforting soft spoken demeanor and rhetoric that was accepting to all who bothered to listen to him. Americans are a passionate people. We all struggled to get here or we respect the stories of our ancestor’s struggle to get to this land that we love. So, it is no surprise that we are also passionately at war with each other through our words and actions no matter the issue or no matter what side you take in a debate.
Don’t try the patience of a brave American who has a volunteer military who will still fight to their death protecting our values. We see it in this 20 year war in the Middle East that never seems to end. But now are we at war with each other at home on our own soil again over issues that we just can’t seem to agree on? Trump is neither  apologetic   or comforting. He is combative and aggressive especially in defending his failed policies and practices. He has his red hat army of supporters that is as ill-informed as he is on history, the Constitution and the laws of this land. His army is growing as Hitler’s army grew in support of him even sending live humans to a fiery  death in ovens.
We just celebrated July 4th that represented the birth of our country and our independence. But in the same month we also had the Civil War in Gettysberg, Pennsylvania. If the trees there could talk they would tell us about the bloodiest time on American soil in our history. The trees still have bullets lodged in their limbs 150 years later. In 1863 in just 3 days on the battlefield 7 million bullets and cannon balls were fired in the battle of the Civil War over 6,OOO acres of land. The bloodies singe day in all of American history happened on the one acre surrounding the Burnside bridge in Antietam, Maryland where 23,000 men died from both sides of the American great debate. The trees there still survive and grow from something that was so tragic.
Today Americans are taking sides again and are at each other’s throats daily over any issue. We still have protests everyday somewhere over something. The frustration is so prevalent that victims of school shootings are being attacked in media, politicians are being harassed in their daily lives even our President after just one year in office feels the need to go to his carefully orchestrated political rallies for moral and financial support. He already has a $40 million dollar war chest accumulated to battle anyone in the next election. The opposition are hoping to get more people from their side elected in the next election in order to balance the controlling votes in the House, Senate, Congress and the race is on to even get life time jobs in our Supreme Court not on ethics, morality and justice grounds but on accumulation important soldiers on each other’s side for battles. The battle lines are being drawn again. Can America survive Americans?
