Saving Steel?

In Trump’s State of the Union speech he said nothing about America’s failed steel industry. Why? China is the biggest steel producing country in the world producing 808.4 million metric tons annually. They are the number one steel-producing country in the world. America produces only 78.5 million metric tons annually. Why? Steel towns like the ones in western Pennsylvania, many who voted for Trump are suffering badly from lack of work. Delusional Donald only mentioned “clean coal”. There is nothing clean about coal.

During his campaign in 2016 he promised workers that he would bring back the steel industry. He lied and now he says nothing. Yet, Trump is quick to insult and name call just about anyone instantly in one of his stupid Tweets but when it comes to his promises or policies he is full of lies. Wheeling Pittsburgh used to be a thriving steel plant. Not anymore. The place used to employ over 2,000 workers. Making steel is quite dangerous but the workers were willing. Now the place is a recycling center. Since 1986 when Ronald Regan was President, the industry started to see a strong decline. All steel making went to China.  The town of Monessen, Pennsylvania has gotten a real hit throughout the years.

The town is pretty much shut down and Trump’s “massive amounts of jobs” never came back to the town. Trump even visited the town of Monessen during the campaign and he convinced those people to vote for him and they did vote for him. Where are the jobs? Trump hosted the President of China in Washington but didn’t negotiate for steel contracts but got himself branding deals to sell his junk and his daughter’s junk in China for personal profit. He then cut back corporate taxes so that he could personally benefit from that too. No steel jobs mentioned.

The town used to be a Democrat town but in 2016 they voted Republican and for Trump? Are they happy now? Hell NO. In 1973 the United States had a healthy steel industry. Raw steel production produced 151 million tons of raw steel. By 2015 America only produced 87 million tons of raw steel. American workers were replaced by automation. Now the United States is the number one IMPORTER of steel worldwide.

25 thousand jobs were lost in just one town in Pennsylvania. Trump’s vow to the steel industry was nothing more than an empty promise. The amount of steel being produced now can be done with just 400 employees. The town has building after building abandoned. In April 2017 from the White House Trump lied again and promised jobs. There aren’t any jobs. The only glimmer was the fact that ONE coal mine opened in Pennsylvania since Trump’s Presidency.  

Trump’s demeanor during his speech was nothing but arrogance and self-promotion as always. He made the term fake news popular because he is the king of fake news. There are three branches of government having to waste their time to do all important investigation of collusion with the Russians to discredit the American election and now to collect the evidence for Trump and his buddies obstructing justice. Trump now puts his efforts into firing CIA and FBI professionals who dare to get close to exposing the liar that he is. Imaging if we could have a President who really had the American people’s interests in mind.
