America's Gift to the World

There are 5 million refugees from Syria alone scattered away from their country. The children and families who fled the bombings that survived need positivity and love. The children need to be educated in anything else but hate. There is one group that is sharing lessons to be learned and positivity now across the world. It is Sesame Street!
Image result for sesame streetThere are currently Sesame Street productions all over the world with characters unique to each region. No matter your traditions or religious beliefs all people need love, understanding and education. When any of those three things are missing from our lives, we are all in trouble. Refugees are the newest group that the television show is reaching out to. Elmo has been a fixture on Sesame Street for over thirty years. He has delighted generations of children and adults alike. The show is all about good times and positivity although it does not ignore the real problems adults and children face every day. The show is a little bit like the psychiatrist you can’t afford to see but you can see the show every day.
The show now is working with the International Rescue Committee to bring hope to those who are in despair. The nightmare in the war in Syria alone has torn millions of children from their once safe strong homes surrounded with everything they would want to becoming   refugees gladly living in a tent sleeping on the ground. There are many who didn’t even make the struggle to a refugee tent. Is a tent their new home now? Depressing!
Lebanon, Turkey and Jordan house most of the refugees that began leaving Syria in 2012.  Sesame Workshop and the International Rescue Committee are building learning centers in the refugee camps and making local tent visits too. At least there are tents for positivity and learning in the camps now. An idle mind is a terrible thing to go to waste. The idiot leaders of countries that think bombing cities are any kind of solution to a problem as   a good thing don’t realize how much damage it does to innocent lives. Not only are their homes gone but their entire communities are gone. The leaders always live in their lavish accommodations and are totally out of touch even with the people they rule over.
They are producing a new version of Sesame Street now in Arabic that can be viewed in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq. What Sesame Street does best is to model inclusion and acceptance. There are already Sesame Streets all over the world. In India, Mexico and China the shows are geared to the region’s traditions. The show reached six continents and countless children. Maybe if a child is raised on Sesame Street they won’t join ISIS and blow themselves up and kill anyone near them too.
The Sesame Workshop develops new characters everywhere that children can identify with. The show helps children deal with social and medical issues. One out of every four children has been affected by Aids.  So they created the first HIV Positive puppet in Africa. In Afghanistan only 1/3rd of girls are educated. They created a girl puppet who had self- esteem and wanted to be educated. The power of media and puppets make people think. The children sitting in the desert in a tent say that the best thing in their lives is school. School is simply a larger tent than where they sleep but is full of joy. At school they learn to share and to care not to kill and learn how to work a weapon.

Sesame Street is a gift from creators from the United States to the world. Sesame was built from the people of America and not our own voted in jaded leaders. We all need to stay positive and bring the love!
